Calypso Divers was founded in 1992 and has established a well known reputation around Phuket and beyond. Located at Kata Beach, it is right in the middle of all activities. The rain at the first few days of this month marked the end of the draught (which as a result left some of us without water at home to shower) and the beginning of the quiet Green (low) Season. It is also the time of the year when most dive professionals here take their holidays after a busy six-month period.

But it is not just the instructors and dive masters that need a break to recharge and rejuvenate --- we all agreed that our hard-working Greta should take her annual leave too --- she is going to the shipyard on the 20th of May, and will come back with a fresh face to greet everybody after the first week of June.

ADEX, Asia Dive Expo , 2007 was held from 27 to 29 April at Hall 106, Bangkok International Exhibition & Convention Centre (BITEC). It was a great opportunity to meet and mingle with divers from other countries, gather info about new diving equipments, and find out about PADI new projects / plans. We, Calypso Divers, took part as well! It was nice to see and chat with fellow dive operators, instructors, suppliers visiting from Phuket -- the people we mainly only had a chance to speak on the phone during high season when everybody was busy!

Greetings from sunny Phuket! We trust, all around the world, you are happy and well.

For those who were with us in the past months, we would like to give a big thank you and hope you all enjoyed the experience. For those who plan to come back to Phuket we sincerely hope we will have a chance to look after all your diving interests and needs.

Similan diving season is coming to an end and our first year of running the two liveaboard boats was a successful one and from it we learned also how to improve a few things here and there.

The cabins on Black Manta have gone through a minor makeover to meet our (and your) high standard. White Manta on the other hand, will undergo a major change: 5 cabins will be converted into rooms with en suite bathrooms, and the total number of people we take will drop to 14. This is again is to ensure the quality of the trip and the service we can provide to the customers. The cabins will look not unsimilar to the ones of Black Manta below:

There is again, everyone’s favorite, our lovely Greta. Starting from March we are running two Phi Phi overnight trips a week (Friday – Saturday; Sunday – Monday) and the diving around Phi Phi recently has been excellent. Owen, our very experienced tour leader, found a place at Phi Phi where basically guarantees sightings of Black-tips. You can stay put and watch, there are as many as 15 – 20 on some days. Other highlights include tiger tail seahorses at Shark Point and Bida Nai, Frog Fish, Bamboo Sharks harlequin shrimp on Koh Doc Mai, which our professional dive guides can find and show to customers every time (and you must know those are not very easy to spot sometimes).

Greta will be out of the water for two weeks in May for the annual maintenance in the shipyard. She will be back to meet customers at the beginning of June.
